My little girl has been battling a common cold, which has significantly reduced her appetite and fluid intake. Poor, sweet darling! She’s had a low-grade fever, watery eyes, constant sneezing, and a runny nose—then her temperature spiked.
I handed her a cool cup of water in her sippy cup, and she took a small sip. Seeing her interest, I decided to enhance it with some nutrients. I sliced a strawberry in half and added it to her water and a few pieces of clementine—two of her favorite fruits.
When I offered it to her again, she took another sip, then paused as if she realized something was different. She smiled slightly, deep in thought, before bringing the cup back to her lips for a bigger sip, letting out a small sigh of contentment. She repeated the process a few more times, and soon, her watery eyes sparkled with joy. Her little arms and legs began moving playfully, a burst of energy, unlike anything I had seen before—perhaps from the vitamin C boost.
Though it didn’t last long, and she soon returned to feeling unwell, I learned something new: sometimes, the simplest additions can bring a little comfort and joy.
